Welcome

My name is Lucilia M. Pereira-Mouries and I am a Doctor in Applied Biology and Biochemistry.

RESEARCH HISTORY
For the past five years, I have worked in the fascinating field of biomineralized tissues, in Invertebrates and Vertebrates. I have studied the composition of their organic fraction and their mechanism of formation.

During my Ph.D., at the Natural History Museum of Paris, I investigated on biomedical applications of mother-of-pearl as a natural biomaterial for bone regeneration. This conducted me to participate in the development and implementation of in vitro biocompatibility studies, and to manipulate osteoprogenitor cells with bioactive factors to make them differentiate in physiologically active bone cells.

Corals are other biomineralized structures used as bone substitutes. Last year I was integrating the Scientific Centre of Monaco, a world leading laboratory in the study of coral biology, as a postdoctoral scientist to investigate on the molecular origins of such diversified mineral structures.

CARREER GOALS
Today, I seek to develop a career in the field of bone regeneration. Tissue engineering, stem cells therapy or biomaterials compatibility studies are my main areas of interest.

If you are working on that field and looking for a postdoctoral scientist, please e-mail me and let me know how I could contribute to your team, so we can work together on the development of new strategies for bone regenerative medicine .

WHAT'S NEW?
I recently moved in the Washington D.C. area.
